Talk The History of the RNLI - with a local focus Speaker David Richmond - Coggan RNLI Honorary Chairman of Christchurch & Bournemouth Fundraising Branch

Synopsis David has been a volunteer presenter, fundraiser and education volunteer for the RNLI for some thirteen years. He is now chairman of the RNLI Christchurch and Bournemouth fundraising branch which raises money to buy the equipment for the RNLI lifeguards on our local beaches to enable them to carry out their vital life saving work.

The talk focussed on HMS Alliance, one of fourteen “A” Class submarines built for service in the far east during WW11.  David described its long and distinguished career and its place in the Gosport submarine museum.

Medical Detection Dogs - Joanna Gardiner

The charity medical detection dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease with the aim of developing faster, more efficient and less invasive diagnostics for better patient outcomes. Our speaker Joanna Gardiner is a volunteer speaker for medical detection dogs and gave an extremely interesting in depth talk on the work of the Charity.

Drawing on examples from the UK, and around the world, this presentation explored the challenges and opportunities for the recovery of nature in the face of rapid, social and environmental change.
