Croquet 18th July led by Graham Otter assisted by Martin Lockwood
On a glorious summer afternoon 16 Probus members and partners took to the croquet lawns of Lymington. Ably marshalled by Graham Otter and Martin Lockwood the participants were divided into eight teams.
Prior to the croquet we met at midday at the Chequers pub for lunch. It was very pleasant sat in the garden enjoying a drink and then in the marquee to have our lunch. After our lunch and drinks we went on to the Lymington Croquet facilities about 1/3 mile down the road.
The croquet was as competitive as always with lots of dark practices and dodgy activity to maintain competitive advantages. It was a lot of laughter and fun and at the end we had a tie between two teams. Since everyone was too exhausted to play extra time or have a penalty shootout. Graham decided that a toss of the coin would determine the winners. Bruce Tindell and Jean Dixon won the toss and the wine while the unfortunate Peter Paterson and Stan Howard were presented with runner up prizes of chocolates
Graham and Martin were thanked for their fine refereeing and subtle tactical advice to teams and for organising the event. There are pictures below showing the meal venue, play in progress and the victors and runnersup receiving their prizes.
The meal and croquet were alot of good fun which hopefully will be repeated next year.
