June 2025 Talk

Our June meeting heard an interesting talk by David Livermore on Queen Emma of England, one of the most influential but least known great ladies in English history. The period before the norman conquest is not well known, Emma was wife of both Ethelred the Unready and of his arch enemy Cnut, and Mother of Edward the Confessor. Known for her wealth and influence, she was one of the richest women of her time. Emma's legacy was her political acumen making her a notable figure and a key player in the Anglo-Saxon and Viking eras. David's presentation gave us a much better insight into this period.
