Airfields led by John Gribble and Dave Bramley
The day after Dr Henry Goodall gave his talk on Airfields in the New Forest in WW2 he hosted a visit to the FONFA headquarters and Museum in Bransgore. This is a treasure trove of information about the airfields in the New Forest. It details the aircraft, the personnel, the roles, the nationalities at each of the various airports. A picture of a US sergeant shows next to his grandson Barack Obama. The tour of the museum began with Henry showing us a multimedia table that began with the map of the new forest and he was able to navigate to some depth into the story of each airfield. We viewed numerous models of the aircraft and pictures of these aircraft. After the museum we visited a memorial dedicated to the Airfield and the participants. It is estimated that at one point there were 25,000 service personnel and 10,000 civilians working at these airfields in the Forest.
