March 2026 Talk
Gerard O'Boyle's most recent background was in financial planning. Interested in humour and the different forms of humour he wrote a book containining over 1300 jokes. This compilation has recently been complemented with another book containing a similar number of jokes. So you can imagine he has an endless source of material to concoct an entertaining presentation on most subjects. It is a well known fact the insertion of humour into a presentation or lecture makes it more enjoyable and memorable. I often wonder why politicians speeches are so devoid of humour.
He made the point that numerous genres of jokes have disappeared due to the requirements of being politically correct and not offending people. This covers numerous topics such as marriage, mothers in law, nationalities, peoples appearance and so on.
Many of the past favourite sitcoms would now be impossible to screen.
However, Gerard was able to make his points by navigating around these offensive topics and still be extremely funny.
It is a another well known fact that laughter relieves stress and makes life more enjoyable.
Gerard's new book is available on Amazon from next week.
