May 2025 Talk

In recognition of VE80 and all those who contributed in those difficult days our May talk was by the Friends of New Forest Airfields Museum Chairman Dr Henry Goodhall who talked of this fascinating part of our local heritage. He gave an overview of the twelve New Forest Airfields in WWII, including their purpose, genesis, locations, types of airfield, squadrons and aircraft stationed hereabouts and their uses, and some of the stories of the pilots, with particular emphasis on the D-Day period in June 1944. The following day Dr Henry give us a truly fascinating tour of their Heritage Centre at Bransgore which graphically demonstrated the strategic importance of the airfields in this part of the South Coast.
